Houston's cemeteries run from Glenwood Cemetery, laid out in 1871 on Buffalo Bayou as the city's first professionally designed cemetery, to large Dignity Memorial properties like Forest Park Lawndale, Forest Park Westheimer, and Memorial Oaks on the Katy Freeway. Veterans are buried at Houston National Cemetery on Veterans Memorial Drive, where the VA furnishes government headstones and markers. Each has its own approval process. Glenwood, for example, requires written approval of plans before any monument goes up. Our workshop is in San Angelo, about six hours from Harris County, so we plan each Houston delivery carefully and set the marker ourselves. You get a free design proof showing lettering, artwork, and size before any granite, marble, or bronze is cut. Families in Pasadena, Pearland, League City, Conroe, and Sugar Land are welcome too. Call (806) 662-8696 for a custom quote.
Glenwood Cemetery is the kind of place where an upright monument looks at home. Its own rules define a monument as granite or other approved stone extending above ground, and they require written approval of size, design, material, and finish before anything is erected. We prepare a scaled drawing for that submission. Forest Park Lawndale says its monuments and markers in granite or bronze can be personalized, but no section rules are published, so confirm with the office. Houston National Cemetery offers VA upright headstones in granite and marble to eligible veterans. We sandblast and laser-engrave in San Angelo and deliver the finished upright. Call (806) 662-8696.
Some cemeteries have restrictions on the monuments they accept. It is a good idea to check with your cemetery first to find out what guidelines you must follow. We will be happy to help you customize a monument that meets those guidelines.
Marker rules change. We’ll confirm the current rules with the cemetery office and send you everything we get.

It depends. Glenwood's rules allow monuments of granite or other approved stone, but plans covering size, design, material, finish, and foundation must be approved in writing by the Cemetery Office first. We draw the proof to support that request.
It depends. We found no published marker rule for Memorial Oaks, so the family should confirm which sections accept uprights with the cemetery office before ordering.
Yes. The VA furnishes a government headstone or marker for eligible veterans, with flat markers in granite, marble, and bronze and upright headstones in granite and marble. The VA says the style chosen must be consistent with existing monuments at the place of burial.

It depends. Some cemeteries, especially newer memorial-park sections, restrict markers to flush bronze or flush granite only. Call the cemetery office in Houston before you order and we will design a single upright that meets the rule of the section you have purchased.
It depends. Granite is the most popular for its ability to withstand extreme climates and temperatures; we also offer marble and bronze face panels mounted on a granite tablet. Send us the section your cemetery has approved and we will recommend the material.
It depends. A single upright is sized and lettered for one person on one grave space; a companion upright is wider and lettered for two — typically a couple — across two adjacent spaces. The construction and materials are the same; the difference is the size of the tablet and the layout of the inscription.
Yes. We laser-engrave portraits directly into black or dark granite, and we set porcelain photo inlays into lighter stones. Both are weatherproof; the choice is mainly about the look and the photograph you are working from.
It depends. A granite single upright set on a proper concrete foundation will commonly stay level and unweathered for many decades. The variable is the foundation work, not the stone.
It depends. Many families choose an independent monument maker, but cemetery rules and installation requirements can vary. Ask your cemetery for its current written requirements and fees before ordering; we can help you review them.
