Austin families burying in a city cemetery work under some of the most clearly written monument rules in Texas. The Parks and Recreation Department runs five municipal cemeteries, including Austin Memorial Park on Hancock Drive, Oakwood Cemetery on Navasota Street, the city's oldest, dating to 1839, and Evergreen Cemetery in East Austin. Those rules cover stone thickness, height, and who may install a marker, so we read them before we draw anything. Families in Round Rock, Georgetown, Cedar Park, and Pflugerville also use Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, where the office sets its own requirements. Our workshop in San Angelo is about three and a half to four hours west of Travis County. We cut granite, marble, and bronze there and send you a free design proof to approve before any stone is cut. Then we deliver and set the marker. At the city cemeteries, installation also needs written authorization from Cemetery Operations, so we confirm that step with the office first. Call (806) 662-8696 for a custom quote.
Ledgers and coping walls are one category where Austin's city cemeteries say no. The City of Austin rules state that the installation of mausoleums, tablets, ledgers, and curbing is prohibited at Austin Memorial Park, Oakwood, Evergreen, and its other municipal cemeteries, with older installations grandfathered. Families who want a ledger in the Austin area should ask a private cemetery, such as Cook-Walden/Capital Parks in Pflugerville, whether its sections accept one. Where a ledger is approved, we cut it in granite and set it on a poured concrete foundation. In a city cemetery, a flush granite or bronze marker is the closest alternative. Call (806) 662-8696 to talk it through.
Some cemeteries have restrictions on the monuments they accept. It is a good idea to check with your cemetery first to find out what guidelines you must follow. We will be happy to help you customize a monument that meets those guidelines.

No. The City of Austin's published cemetery rules prohibit the installation of tablets, ledgers, and curbing. Existing ones are grandfathered, but new ledgers are not accepted.
It depends. Some private cemeteries accept ledgers in certain sections, so the family should confirm with the cemetery office, such as Cook-Walden/Capital Parks in Pflugerville. Send us the section rules and we will draw to them.
Yes. The City of Austin's published rules say upright and raised memorials can be no more than 42 inches tall, and the top of a flush memorial cannot sit more than two inches above ground level. Memorials must also be at least 10 inches narrower than the space, and bases can be no wider than 18 inches. We draw every proof inside those limits.
It depends. City cemeteries accept granite or marble at least four inches thick, or cast bronze of any thickness. Private cemeteries such as Cook-Walden/Capital Parks in Pflugerville set their own rules, and we found none published, so the family should confirm with that cemetery office.
It depends. City rules allow installation only by a contractor approved by Cemetery Operations, with written authorization secured first. We work through that requirement with you and the office before we schedule delivery from San Angelo.
No. The City of Austin's rules prohibit installing tablets, ledgers, and curbing in its cemeteries, though ones already in place are grandfathered. A flush marker or an upright within the 42-inch limit is the usual alternative.
It depends. Many older municipal and Catholic cemeteries allow ledgers and coping; many newer memorial parks restrict them. Send us the cemetery section in Austin and we will check the rule with the office before you order.
Yes. We pour a new concrete foundation around the grave and set the ledger on top. The casket and the existing vault are not disturbed.
It depends. A ledger covers the grave itself; a coping wall borders the plot. Many families install both — a ledger on each grave inside a shared coping border that defines the whole family plot.
It depends. The cemetery’s foundation rule and the design both set the thickness — thicker stone is heavier but lasts longer at the joints. We will recommend a thickness once we see the cemetery’s specification.
It depends. Many families choose an independent monument maker, but cemetery rules and installation requirements can vary. Ask your cemetery for its current written requirements and fees before ordering; we can help you review them.
