Houston's cemeteries run from Glenwood Cemetery, laid out in 1871 on Buffalo Bayou as the city's first professionally designed cemetery, to large Dignity Memorial properties like Forest Park Lawndale, Forest Park Westheimer, and Memorial Oaks on the Katy Freeway. Veterans are buried at Houston National Cemetery on Veterans Memorial Drive, where the VA furnishes government headstones and markers. Each has its own approval process. Glenwood, for example, requires written approval of plans before any monument goes up. Our workshop is in San Angelo, about six hours from Harris County, so we plan each Houston delivery carefully and set the marker ourselves. You get a free design proof showing lettering, artwork, and size before any granite, marble, or bronze is cut. Families in Pasadena, Pearland, League City, Conroe, and Sugar Land are welcome too. Call (806) 662-8696 for a custom quote.
A granite bench works well where Houston families visit often and want a place to sit. Placement is the question. Glenwood Cemetery requires written approval of plans for any monument before erection, so a bench there starts with a submitted drawing. Forest Park Lawndale, Forest Park Westheimer, and Memorial Oaks do not publish bench rules, so the family should confirm placement and footprint with the office. Houston National Cemetery follows VA rules. Once a bench is approved, we cut it in San Angelo, engrave the seat or back, and can build in a sealed niche for cremated remains. We deliver and set it ourselves. Call (806) 662-8696.
Some cemeteries have restrictions on the monuments they accept. It is a good idea to check with your cemetery first to find out what guidelines you must follow. We will be happy to help you customize a monument that meets those guidelines.

It depends. A granite bench set on a properly poured concrete pad will commonly stay level and unweathered for many decades. The variables are the foundation work and the freeze-thaw cycle, not the stone itself.
Yes. That is the point. We finish the seat to be usable in any weather and we set the bench on a level pad so it does not rock when used.
