Austin families burying in a city cemetery work under some of the most clearly written monument rules in Texas. The Parks and Recreation Department runs five municipal cemeteries, including Austin Memorial Park on Hancock Drive, Oakwood Cemetery on Navasota Street, the city's oldest, dating to 1839, and Evergreen Cemetery in East Austin. Those rules cover stone thickness, height, and who may install a marker, so we read them before we draw anything. Families in Round Rock, Georgetown, Cedar Park, and Pflugerville also use Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, where the office sets its own requirements. Our workshop in San Angelo is about three and a half to four hours west of Travis County. We cut granite, marble, and bronze there and send you a free design proof to approve before any stone is cut. Then we deliver and set the marker. At the city cemeteries, installation also needs written authorization from Cemetery Operations, so we confirm that step with the office first. Call (806) 662-8696 for a custom quote.
Bench memorials need a careful check in Austin. The City of Austin rules cover height and material, with raised memorials capped at 42 inches and granite at four inches thick minimum, but they do not name benches specifically. Before we quote a bench for Austin Memorial Park, Oakwood, or Evergreen, the family should confirm with Cemetery Operations that a bench is accepted in that section. Cook-Walden/Capital Parks in Pflugerville sets its own placement rules. When a bench is approved, we cut it from solid granite, engrave the seat or back, and can add a sealed niche for cremated remains. Call (806) 662-8696 for a custom quote.
Some cemeteries have restrictions on the monuments they accept. It is a good idea to check with your cemetery first to find out what guidelines you must follow. We will be happy to help you customize a monument that meets those guidelines.

It depends. The city's published rules do not mention benches by name, so confirm with the office before ordering. If a bench is accepted, it still has to meet the 42-inch height limit and the material rules.
Yes. Some bench designs include a sealed niche under the seat or in one end for one or two urns, where the cemetery allows it. Tell us up front and we will quote the bench with the niche included.
Yes. The City of Austin's published rules say upright and raised memorials can be no more than 42 inches tall, and the top of a flush memorial cannot sit more than two inches above ground level. Memorials must also be at least 10 inches narrower than the space, and bases can be no wider than 18 inches. We draw every proof inside those limits.
It depends. City cemeteries accept granite or marble at least four inches thick, or cast bronze of any thickness. Private cemeteries such as Cook-Walden/Capital Parks in Pflugerville set their own rules, and we found none published, so the family should confirm with that cemetery office.
It depends. City rules allow installation only by a contractor approved by Cemetery Operations, with written authorization secured first. We work through that requirement with you and the office before we schedule delivery from San Angelo.
No. The City of Austin's rules prohibit installing tablets, ledgers, and curbing in its cemeteries, though ones already in place are grandfathered. A flush marker or an upright within the 42-inch limit is the usual alternative.
It depends. Many older cemeteries allow benches inside a family plot; many memorial parks restrict them to designated cremation or garden sections. Call the cemetery office in Austin before you order and we will design within their rule.
Yes. Some bench designs are built with a sealed niche under the seat or in one end to hold one or two urns. Tell us up front if that is the use case and we will price the bench with the niche included.
It depends. A granite bench set on a properly poured concrete pad will commonly stay level and unweathered for many decades. The variables are the foundation work and the freeze-thaw cycle, not the stone itself.
Yes. That is the point. We finish the seat to be usable in any weather and we set the bench on a level pad so it does not rock when used.
It depends. Many families choose an independent monument maker, but cemetery rules and installation requirements can vary. Ask your cemetery for its current written requirements and fees before ordering; we can help you review them.
